Burkhard Heppe, PhD

Burkhard is a director and co-founder of NPL Markets Ltd. in London, an innovative loan marketplace and analytics platform. As CTO of NPL Markets he is responsible for the development of loan valuation, credit portfolio management and securitization reporting solutions. Burkhard is a member of the European Commission NPL Advisory Panel and has advised the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank on NPL market efficiency and online transaction platforms. Burkhard has 13 years of experience in international investment banking and 14 years as an entrepreneur and has published research on the use of AI for non-performing loans and credit models.

Burkhard co-founded the Dutch Fintech, Open Source Investor Services, where he advised major US and European financial institutions on loan data quality, valuation and credit risk models.

Previously, he was a Managing Director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London, responsible for arranging credit risk transfer and NPL investments for financial institutions in Europe. He has structured several award-winning first-time securitization transactions of NPL, project finance, aircraft and shipping loans. Burkhard’s expertise spans credit data, portfolio optimization, risk and valuation models, non-performing loans, securitization, and synthetic risk transfer.

Burkhard holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge, England.
